Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is designed to assist eligible households pay for energy services, including gas, electric and furnace repair assistance.


North Lawndale Employment Network is proud to partner with the Community and Economic Development Association of Cook County, Inc. (CEDA) to provide a variety of assistance programs for eligible households to preserve their energy services. Please note the schedule for the 2023-2024 Energy Assistance application cycle
Applications will be accepted and processed from October 2nd 2023 to August 15th 2024 or until available funds are exhausted.
October 2nd 2023: Applications open for Cook County residents age 65+, residents with a disability, and residents with children ages 6 and under.
November 1st 2023: Applications open for Cook County residents who have received shutoff notices or utility shutoffs.
December 1st 2023: Applications open for all other Cook County residents.

Each program has specific income and eligibility requirements and require applicants to provide required documentation. These documents include:

Proof of 30-day income for all residents over 18 (wages, Social Security benefits, TANF, AABD, Unemployment)

Your most recent gas, electric, or water bills
-
Social Security numbers for all household members, if available
*Undocumented residents are also welcome to apply
How to Apply
Our FOC will begin taking appointments for qualified applicants on October 2nd, 2023. Applicants can schedule an appointment by contacting our Lead Energy Assistance Technician Ana by emailing Ana@nlen.org or calling 773-265-7940.
The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is a federal program that provides eligible customers with a one-time payment towards your energy bills. Benefits are available once per program year, September 2021 through May 2022, or until funds are exhausted. No matter if you rent or own your home, LIHEAP offers financial help to limited-income households to pay heat and electric bills.
The applications for energy assistance programs are now closed, and these programs will re-open September 2023. Call 773-584-4025 or email Ana at ana@nlen.org to set up an appointment to meet with our staff regarding other programs and resources to assist with any financial needs or concerns.
