The Voice of the Voiceless Award honors those who provide a “voice” for the marginalized. Awardees come from all walks of life, including the worlds of politics, business, professional sports, academia, and others where their work paves the way for lasting change. The 2018 Voice of the Voiceless Award is presented to Terry Mazany, former President and CEO of The Chicago Community Trust. In his 16 years at the Trust, it more than doubled in size and tripled its grantmaking capacity, significantly increasing its philanthropic footprint on the metropolitan Chicago area. Under his leadership, the Trust vastly expanded its reach and deep commitment to supporting a diverse community of nonprofit organizations that champion equity and opportunity for all.
With his passion, commitment and compassion for the men and women we serve, Terry has worked since 2001 to improve the lives of Chicago residents by championing the North Lawndale Employment Network and organizations throughout Chicago effectively leading a local philanthropic force to build thriving organizations. The Chicago Community Trust has been a longtime funder and investor of NLEN contributing more than $500,000 in general operating support over the last six years. His leadership has transformed lives and communities by providing high-impact nonprofits like NLEN with the necessary tools and resources to effectively address root causes of poverty is some of Chicago’s most distressed neighborhoods.
